On the Stockert mountain close to the town of Bad M\u00fcnstereifel you will find the first fully steerable radio telescope of Germany, the \u201cAstropeiler\u201d. Originally built in 1956, it is now equipped with up to date technology and is used for various activities:<\/p>\n

Scientific observations are performed within the possibilities of a 25-m class instrument. This is frequently done in cooperation with other institutions or universities.<\/p>\n

Students of Physics and Astrophysics can take part in lab courses. Also, observations from the site are used for Master- or Bachelor Theses.<\/p>\n

School classes of different age can visit the site and do lab courses.<\/p>\n

The site is open to visitors during the designated times. Tours are offered which give insight into radio astronomy and observations can be experienced live.<\/p>\n

The radio astronomy site on the Stockert is completely operated on a voluntary bases by a non-profit organization, the \u201cAstropeiler Stockert e.V.\u201d Members are active to maintain the site, do further development of instrumentation and software and thus enable scientific work with a state-of-the-art instrument. Lab courses are performed by the members and visitors are shown around.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Since the year 2000, the Nordrhein-Westfalen-Stiftung<\/a> is owner of the site. This foundation did fund the refurbishment and modernization after the acquisition and continues to support the maintenance of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
